Who We Are

The Center for Global Sustainability Law (CGSL) is a nonprofit organization that focuses on the intersection between law and sustainability. With an interdisciplinary approach, our experts, drawn from around the world and diverse industries, are committed to expounding the critical role of law (both hard and soft) in a just, equitable, prosperous, and sustainable transition.

Vision

To accelerate a just and sustainable transition by advancing legal expertise and knowledge sharing on the intersection of sustainability and law, fostering a sustainable future for all.

Mission Statement

To provide expert analysis of the intersection between law and sustainability for the promotion and acceleration of global sustainability goals, as well as lead the mapping, identifying, clarifying, and expounding of all sustainability-related legal issues, research, and knowledge-sharing toward a sustainable world for all.

Our Core Values

Excellence

At CGSL, we are committed to providing the very best technical and legal analysis of all sustainability issues. At the core of this commitment, is the belief that the earth, which we occupy and benefit from its resources and beauty, deserves only the best of our efforts to make it sustainable for all.

Innovation

We know that the world is constantly changing and so must our approach to keeping it sustainable. We believe that many of the tools previously applied to earth and societal problems have not produced the best results. We are therefore committed to exploring new and dynamic ways of addressing the world’s sustainability problems through the law.

Integrity

We believe that the world’s sustainability problems cannot be solved if we ignore the honest and strong moral principles that prioritize our planetary health over other gains. Our utmost interest is the attainment of a world that is sustainable for both the present and future generations and we will not shift at any cost.

Collaboration

We understand that sustainability is a global concern that cuts across multiple industries and interests. No one can do it alone. We are therefore always open to sharing and working with organizations and individuals who are committed to the safety of our world and a sustainable future for all.

Independence

We are a non-profit and apolitical organization. We will continue to maintain our freedom and control from external interference from governments, organizations, or individuals. While our executives and staff may hold personal opinions on political or other issues that touch on sustainability, their individual views do not represent the position of CGSL.

Respect

The world is already troubled in many ways. At CGSL, we are committed to raising and upholding a standard that places premium value on human beings, their opinions, political preferences, and other choices. This, we will accord to our people and outsiders alike.

Transparency

We understand the nature of our assignment and how much it can impact our world. We are therefore committed to providing trustworthy, honest, and candid views on any sustainability issue without any untoward hidden motives. If it is not in the best interest of a sustainable future, we will chose a better course!

Impact

The vision of a safer and healthier world is what keeps us going. We are desperately passionate to see our work make a significant difference in every part of the world, be it a safe climate, restoration of our biodiversity, an improved living wage for workers, or a complete abolition of modern slavery. Our goal is to see a healthy and prosperous world where no one is left behind.
