Climate Change Law and Policy
Exploring the legal framework that supports a safe planet for all
At CGSL, we recognize that a safe planet is only possible through a robust and enforceable legal architecture. Our work in Climate Change Law and Policy centers on deconstructing the global transition from carbon-intensive systems to a resilient, net-zero future. We map and analyze the evolving landscape of climate jurisprudence, from the high-level mandates of the Paris Agreement to localized carbon pricing mechanisms and climate litigation trends. By bridging the gap between international climate science and national legislative action, CGSL ensures that the legal pathways to mitigation and adaptation are not just visionary, but operationally sound and “glocal” in their application.
Our expertise moves beyond the analysis of existing statutes to address the “legal dearth” that often hinders progress in Emerging Markets and Developing Economies (EMDEs). We serve as legislative architects, providing informed proposals for legal frameworks that support renewable energy expansion, climate risk disclosure, and green finance mobilization. At CGSL, our commitment is to simplify the complexities of climate law, transforming intricate regulatory hurdles into strategic opportunities for governments and businesses alike. Through our work, we ensure that the rule of law acts as a catalyst for environmental integrity and a safe, sustainable world for all.
Our analysis of climate change legal framework covers three distinct “Climate Pillars”:
- The Mitigation Framework: Laws governing carbon markets, renewable energy incentives, and emissions standards.
- The Adaptation & Resilience Pillar: Legal standards for coastal protection, water security, and disaster risk management.
- The Accountability Layer: Analysis of climate-related disclosure regulations including the TCFD and ISSB as well as the rising tide of global climate litigation.
